Session 2 — 2025-12-21

Teleport to Waterdeep; Leosin; first Council of Waterdeep; the party is granted investigative powers.

Summary

Before leaving, Barnacas made a show of paying Nalaskur Thaelond 20 gp to talk up the Red Larch Irregulars. Whole party boosted the Teleport (Kiviak d3, Thorg inspiration d4, Viktor Guidance, Zeiria Enhance Ability).

Arrived behind a building in the Castle Ward, Waterdeep; Barnacas recognized a symbol on the wall. At the Dragon's Head Tavern, Leosin Erlanthar met them; after a coded exchange he showed Barnacas a Harpers pendant. Leosin invited them to a secret council the next day at the request of Romalia "Remy" Haventree ("Remy"), whose husband Lord Artagast Albrenter (a masked Lord) was assassinated. Lodging arranged at The Gentle Rest (cover: trade mission from the East).

Shopping: Barnacas bought 1000 gp of paper and ink; Kiviak a "Drunken Giant" tunic; Viktor ("V") checked Halls of Justice for Order of the Gauntlet rumors; Zeiria ("Z") made Remy a condolence bouquet.

At the Council of Waterdeep, led by Lord Neverember, the party learned the history of the Cult of the Dragon, Severin, and the five The Five Dragon Masks. Previous adventurers destroyed the flying fortress Skyreach Castle and died. Delaan Delaan Winterhound said Skyreach should never have been stolen and was rightly destroyed. Ambassador Connerad Brawnanvil distrusted Kiviak (kobolds among cultists); Zeiria and Barnacas defended him; Kiviak told his story (Arma). Council voted the party emergency investigative powers; consensus that ends don't justify unlawful means.

After: two unnatural "pulses" of stillness (Draakhorn). At Remy's, under Tiny Hut, Leosin reported the white mask was stolen from Varram, who went searching near Boareskyr Bridge. Priority: mask > capture Varram > kill Varram. Writ available tomorrow. Zeiria's animal contact felt unease, "maybe a summons."
